CLIMBING PICO DA VARA, SAO MIGUEL
There is no doubt Sao Miguel Island has something special, placed in the middle of the Atlantic and fullfilled with landscapes you only could imagine from New Zealand or the exotic Pacific Hawaii island. In a certain way we are lucky to have this miracle of the nature so close to the european continent. I wanna show you today the "Pico Da Vara" trail. Pico Da Vara, accounting 1103m, is the highest point in "Sao Miguel" island and the second highest in the Azors just after "Montanha Do Pico" in Pico Island. We could consider this a medium level hike, not for kids or ancients but affordable for quite less harsh than "Montaha do Pico". It takes around 2 hours to reach the peak and 1'5 half hours for the downhill. Before leaving it's s must to prepare your sack with 1'5 liter of water per person and some chocolate bars to eat during the way.
